SPS Community Media is part of Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS), a grass-roots initiative for water and livelihood security, based out of a remote tribal village in Madhya Pradesh. 

 

People on the margin and their predicaments, their aspirations, their identity and survival as a community pitched against poverty – SPS Community media weaves in these nuances into films in a dynamic, interactive process, in partnership with the local community. The core team comprises local people of the area who have been initiated into making films. The guiding principle has been to bring out the voices of the people reflecting lived-in stories of the region. Articulating the interaction of SPS with the community, these films etch stories of hope, which are then shared within the community itself through People’s Mobile Cinema. Over 150 screenings take place every month in different locations. More than 200 films have been produced so far – social documentaries, community videos and training films. In recent times, e-magazines and podcasts are only adding to the repertoire.
